About This Museum

What makes our Wallachian Museum truly special isn't just the old buildings, but the life we still breathe into them. It's a whole village tucked into the Beskydy foothills, where you can wander from a timber church to a smoky forge and feel the past under your feet. We've moved and preserved over a hundred authentic structures here—farmsteads, water mills, even a rustic pub—creating a landscape that tells the story of our Carpathian ancestors. This isn't a place where history sits quietly on a shelf.

Collection Highlights

You'll find yourself drawn to the humble wooden cottages with their thatched roofs, smelling of hay and woodsmoke, and the charming little St. Anne's Church with its hand-carved bell tower. Don't miss the functioning water-powered mill or the schoolhouse that shows how children learned centuries ago.

Visitor Information

Come during one of our seasonal festivals if you can—that's when the blacksmiths are hammering, the bakers are pulling bread from traditional ovens, and folk music fills the air. It’s best to set aside a good three or four hours to properly explore all three of our main exhibit trails.

Architecture & Building

The buildings are classic Carpathian vernacular architecture: low-slung log houses with stone foundations, steep shingled or thatched roofs designed to shed heavy snow, and intricate wooden joinery held together without a single nail.
