National Technical Museum
About This Museum
Tucked away in the Letná district, Prague's National Technical Museum is a sprawling love letter to Czech ingenuity. Stepping inside feels like entering a cathedral of mechanics, where the air hums with the quiet presence of dormant machines. You'll find everything from delicate, hand-crafted astronomical instruments used by Tycho Brahe to a full-scale coal mine shaft hidden in the basement. It’s less a static collection and more an immersive journey through the engines that powered a nation.
Collection Highlights
The ground floor is dominated by a stunning fleet of vintage cars and motorcycles, including sleek Tatras and Laurin & Klements. Upstairs, you can peer through breathtakingly ornate brass telescopes from centuries past. Don't miss the chance to descend into the surprisingly authentic replica of a coal mine, complete with low ceilings and vintage mining carts.
Visitor Information
It's located at Kostelní 42 in Prague 7, an easy tram ride from the city center. The museum is surprisingly vast, so wear comfortable shoes—you'll need a good few hours to do it justice.
Architecture & Building
Housed in a grand, purpose-built functionalist building from the 1930s, its clean lines and imposing facade perfectly mirror the industrial spirit within.
