Museum of Public Transport
About This Museum
You'd never guess that one of Prague's coolest museums is hidden inside a massive, brick-walled tram depot that once echoed with the clatter of departing streetcars. Stepping inside feels like entering a cathedral dedicated to transit, where the air smells faintly of oil and old leather. I spent ages just wandering between the polished flanks of historic trams, from elegant wooden models to the boxy workhorses of the communist era. The real treasure, though, is the fleet of beautifully restored buses and a few unexpected gems, like a vintage snowplow train.
Collection Highlights
The stars are undoubtedly the operational historic trams you can sometimes see on special city lines, alongside a collection of early 20th-century buses and intricate scale models that trace the city's transit evolution.
Visitor Information
It's a bit off the main tourist trail in Střešovice, but easily reached by taking historic tram number 41 (which feels like part of the exhibit itself) on weekends. Check their website for seasonal opening hours before you go.
Architecture & Building
A sprawling, functionalist-era industrial hall from the early 20th century, all red brick, vast arched windows, and a sense of no-nonsense purpose.
