Tucked away in the charming village of Xagħra on Gozo, you'll find the Ta' Kola Windmill, its massive wooden sails a striking silhouette against the sky. Stepping inside is like walking right into the 18th century, where you can see all the original grinding mechanisms, massive millstones and all, still in place. Up a steep, creaky staircase, you discover the miller's living quarters, which are frozen in time with simple furniture and personal belongings that tell a quiet story of daily life. It’s a surprisingly intimate look at the ingenuity and hard work that went into something as simple as making flour.
Collection Highlights
The giant wooden gears and millstones used for grinding grain are the star of the show. You also get to peek into the miller's sparsely furnished home, complete with his tools and a traditional cooking area.
