Fort St Angelo
About This Museum
So we're on this little peninsula in Birgu, and this massive honey-colored fort just rises out of the rock, completely commanding the Grand Harbour. Walking across the drawbridge feels like stepping right into a history book. You can practically hear the echoes of the Knights of St. John in the winding passages and vast courtyards. And the views from the ramparts? Absolutely breathtaking—you can see all the Three Cities and Valletta's skyline across the water.
Collection Highlights
You'll find everything from suits of armor to old cannons still in their original emplacements. The restored Great Siege-era gunpowder magazene is particularly cool to see, giving you a real sense of what it was like to be stationed here centuries ago.
Visitor Information
It's open daily, but definitely check their website for exact times as they can change with the seasons. Wear comfy shoes because there are a lot of steep steps and uneven surfaces to explore.
Architecture & Building
It's a classic medieval fortress that's been heavily fortified over centuries, with thick limestone walls, imposing bastions, and deep defensive ditches carved right into the bedrock.
