Malta Aviation Museum
About This Museum
Tucked away on the periphery of the old RAF Ta' Qali airfield, the Malta Aviation Museum tells the story of an island that lived and breathed aircraft during some of the most pivotal moments of the 20th century. You're not just walking through a hangar; you're stepping onto historic tarmac where Spitfires once scrambled to defend this tiny fortress. The collection feels deeply personal, with many of the aircraft having direct links to Malta's own wartime squadrons. It’s a place that powerfully captures the spirit of survival and innovation in the face of immense adversity.
Collection Highlights
The star of the show is undoubtedly a beautifully restored Hawker Hurricane, one of the very few that fought in the Siege of Malta still in existence. Alongside it sits a hulking Douglas C-47 Dakota, a workhorse that helped keep the island supplied, and a trio of post-war jets including a sleek English Electric Lightning.
Visitor Information
It's located just outside Attard and is easy to combine with a trip to the nearby Mdina glassblowing factory. Wear comfortable shoes as you'll be exploring several large hangars and an outdoor display area.
Architecture & Building
The museum is housed primarily in original, wartime-era RAF hangars—sturdy, corrugated steel structures that are as much a part of the exhibit as the planes inside.
