Peace Square
About This Museum
I almost walked right past Peace Square, mistaking its unassuming, sun-washed buildings for just another charming corner of Domažlice. But then you feel it—the quiet weight of a place that has been the town's silent witness for centuries, from bustling medieval market to a somber namesake for peace. Today, it's a living room for the community, where the gentle clinking of glasses from a sidewalk cafe mixes with the laughter of children chasing pigeons. It’s less a museum you walk through and more a feeling you absorb while sitting on a bench under the shade of an old tree.
Collection Highlights
The square itself is the main exhibit, framed by colorful Baroque and Renaissance burgher houses that tell their own stories. Don't miss the iconic leaning tower of the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary, which has been defiantly tilting for over 350 years. The weekly Chod Festival transforms the entire square into a vibrant celebration of local culture with traditional costumes and music.
Visitor Information
It's completely free and open-air, so you can wander through anytime, day or night. For the best atmosphere, grab a coffee or a local beer at one of the perimeter cafes and just watch Domažlice life unfold.
Architecture & Building
A picturesque blend of colorful Baroque facades and older Renaissance gables, all centered around the dominant, slightly crooked church tower that gives the square its unforgettable silhouette.
