Nový Dvůr Arboretum
About This Museum
I stumbled upon the Nový Dvůr Arboretum almost by accident, and what a find it was. The story goes that this incredible collection of trees and plants started life as the private passion of a local noble, which feels so fitting for this serene place. Wandering the paths, you're transported from the deep, fragrant pine forests of North America to the quiet, mossy woods of Japan without ever leaving the Czech countryside. It’s less a formal garden and more a living, breathing world tour of temperate flora. I spent hours just breathing in the quiet and getting completely lost in the best way possible.
Collection Highlights
The sheer scale of the conifer collection is breathtaking, with towering sequoias and delicate Japanese maples that create a fiery canopy in autumn. Don't miss the peat bog section—a squishy, unique ecosystem where carnivorous sundews hide amongst the sphagnum moss.
Visitor Information
It's incredibly easy to spend a full day here, so wear comfy shoes. The greenhouses are a perfect retreat if you need a warm, humid escape on a cooler day.
Architecture & Building
The heart of it all is a beautifully preserved Baroque chateau, its warm yellow facade contrasting with the wild greenery. The modern glasshouses feel like elegant crystal palaces built just for the plants.
