National Memorial to the Heroes of the Heydrich Terror
About This Museum
People come here, often very quiet and thoughtful, because they know what happened within these walls. They walk into the old Orthodox church of St. Cyril and Methodius, a place that still bears the scars of a brutal, seven-hour siege in 1942. You can see the pockmarks from thousands of bullets in the stonework near the crypt entrance, a silent testament to the last stand of the brave paratroopers who assassinated Reinhard Heydrich. It’s not a grand museum but a preserved crime scene and memorial, heavy with the weight of sacrifice. You leave with a profound sense of their courage and the staggering cost of their defiance.
Collection Highlights
The most powerful exhibits are the building itself—the bullet-riddled stone around the crypt grille and the hole paratroopers hacked through the ceiling to escape. Inside, you'll find personal artifacts like their uniforms, photographs, and weapons that tell their story from training in Britain to their final moments.
Visitor Information
It's tucked away on Resslova street, just a short walk from the river. Be sure to check opening times online as they can vary, and I'd recommend setting aside at least an hour to truly absorb everything.
Architecture & Building
It's a beautiful, interwar-era Orthodox church built in a modern Byzantine style, with a simple yet striking white facade crowned by twin towers.
