Melicharovo vlastivědné muzeum
About This Museum
You know how most small-town museums feel a bit dusty and predictable? This one is the complete opposite. It's packed to the rafters with the life's work of one incredibly passionate local teacher, Josef Melichar, who spent decades gathering everything he found fascinating about the Unhošť region. Walking through feels less like a formal exhibit and more like exploring a wonderfully cluttered attic full of stories. The sheer variety is what gets you—one minute you're looking at ancient fossils, the next at traditional folk costumes or vintage radios.
Collection Highlights
The archaeology section has these stunning Bronze Age artifacts dug up from nearby sites, which is pretty cool to see. But my favorite part was probably the massive collection of historical photographs that just make the town's past feel so immediate. And you can't miss the room dedicated to local crafts, filled with beautiful pottery and intricate lacework.
Visitor Information
It's right on the main street in Unhošť, super easy to find, and has this wonderfully unpretentious vibe. Don't expect a fancy cafe or a giant gift shop; the charm is in its authenticity and the obvious passion behind it all.
Architecture & Building
Housed in a solid, handsome building that looks like it's been a cornerstone of the town for ages, probably from the late 19th or early 20th century.
