Aircraft museum Prague-Kbely
About This Museum
Did you know this whole place started back in 1968 on the very airfield where Czech aviation first took off? It's a sprawling mix of massive hangars and open-air tarmac, absolutely packed with everything from fragile-looking biplanes to sleek Cold War jets. You can get right up close to them, smelling the old oil and metal, which really makes you feel the history. It’s not just a static display; it feels like a living, breathing tribute to the people who built and flew these incredible machines.
Collection Highlights
You have to see the Avia B-534, a beautiful biplane fighter from before WWII, and then stand under the wings of a massive MiG-21 or a Soviet strategic bomber. The collection is so diverse it even includes helicopters and some rare experimental prototypes you won't find anywhere else.
Visitor Information
Heads up, it's only open from May to October because many of the planes are displayed outside. Entry is completely free, which is amazing for a collection this size, but check their website for specific opening days as it's not always daily.
Architecture & Building
The main buildings are those classic, no-nonsense aircraft hangars—huge, functional spaces with high ceilings that let them cram in an astonishing number of planes.
