About This Museum

Tucked away in the rolling hills of the Fleurieu Peninsula, this isn't your typical stuffy history museum. It feels more like you've been invited to rummage through your great-grandparents' incredibly well-organized shed. The charm here is in the sheer breadth of local life it captures, from the Indigenous history of the area to the lives of early European settlers. You'll find everything from vintage farming equipment to delicate lacework, each piece telling a small part of the Yankalilla district's story.

Collection Highlights

Don't miss the old horse-drawn buggy that looks ready for a Sunday drive, or the fascinating collection of early 20th-century medical instruments that will make you very glad for modern healthcare. There's also a wonderful display of domestic items, including classic pre-war clothing and kitchenware that will have you chatting with your friends about 'the good old days'.

Visitor Information

It's run by lovely volunteers who are often around for a chat if you have questions. Just pop in during their open hoursβ€”it's a perfect, low-key stop after exploring the nearby coastline.

Housed in a classic, no-frills Australian community hall-style building with a simple verandah out front; it’s unpretentious and perfectly suited to its local character.
