Wireless in Wales
About This Museum
Did you know that the very first wireless music broadcast in the UK happened right here in Denbigh? This little museum is a total gem for anyone fascinated by how sound travels through the air. Tucked away inside a Welsh language center, it's packed with an incredible array of vintage radios and broadcasting equipment that tells the story of Wales' unique role in the wireless age. You'll find everything from delicate crystal sets to massive, furniture-style valve radios, each with its own story to tell.
Collection Highlights
Look for the early crystal radio receivers, which required headphones and a 'cat's whisker' wire to detect signals. The collection of classic Bakelite and wooden cabinet radios from the 1930s to the 1950s are real showstoppers, showcasing beautiful Art Deco design.
Visitor Information
It's located within Canolfan Iaith Clwyd on Bridge Street, so just pop into the language center. It's a cozy spot, so checking their opening times online before you go is a good idea to make sure they're open.
Architecture & Building
Housed in a functional but charming building on a historic Denbigh street, it feels more like discovering a secret collection in a community hub than a formal museum.
