It feels less like a traditional museum and more like wandering through a vast, secret estate with its own incredible story. I spent hours getting lost between the grand historic house, the series of breathtaking chapels, and the surprisingly peaceful gardens. The sheer scale of the place is awe-inspiring, and the silence in the chapels is something you have to experience for yourself.
Collection Highlights
The showstopper is definitely the stunning Pugin-designed St Cuthbert's Chapel, with its vaulted ceiling that just pulls your gaze upward. Don't miss the dramatic neo-Gothic Refectory, which feels like a set from a period drama, and keep an eye out for the intricate marquetry in the President's Room.
