Turton Tower
About This Museum
Tucked away in the Lancashire countryside on the edge of Bolton, Turton Tower is a wonderfully eccentric architectural patchwork. It began life as a 15th-century stone pele tower, a fortified structure built for defence, before later generations transformed it into a comfortable Elizabethan and Victorian family home. Wandering through its rooms feels like flipping through the pages of a living history book, with each era leaving its own distinctive mark. The result is a charming and unique place that feels more like a lived-in house than a formal museum.
Collection Highlights
You'll find fine oak furniture, an impressive collection of arms and armour, and wonderfully preserved Victorian rooms. Don't miss the curious 'Nutter' exhibit, which delves into the history of a prominent local family with that unforgettable name.
