The Tank Museum
About This Museum
People come to Bovington from all over the world, not just to see tanks, but to stand where history was forged. You can feel the ground shake during the live displays in the arena and get up close to legendary machines like the terrifying Tiger 131. It's a place that truly brings the story of armoured warfare to life, from the first clunky prototypes to modern main battle tanks. By the end of the day, you leave with a profound sense of the engineering and the people inside these steel giants.
Collection Highlights
The star of the show is undoubtedly Tiger 131, the only running Tiger I in the world, but don't miss the colossal Mark I from WWI or the sleek Challenger 2. The Trench Experience recreates the mud and despair these early tanks were designed to overcome.
Visitor Information
Check their website before you visit as they run fantastic themed events and tank driving experiences throughout the year. There's a great café for a cuppa and a shop full of models and books that's dangerously tempting.
Architecture & Building
The museum has grown over decades, so it's a mix of old aircraft-style hangars and modern, purpose-built halls that give you plenty of space to walk around these massive machines.
