The Georgian House Museum
About This Museum
You'd never guess it from the elegant, symmetrical facade, but this grand house was one of the first in Bristol to have a cold water plunge bath—a real luxury in 1790. Step inside and you're transported back to the world of a wealthy sugar merchant and the unseen army of servants who made his life of comfort possible. The air smells of beeswax polish, and you can almost hear the rustle of silk gowns on the curved mahogany staircase. It’s a place that tells two very different stories under one roof.
Collection Highlights
Don't miss the recreated kitchen with its original roasting jack, the starkly contrasting servants' bedrooms in the attic, and that remarkable, barrel-vaulted cold water bath tucked away downstairs.
Visitor Information
It's tucked away just off Brandon Hill, so it feels like a real discovery. Pop in—it’s surprisingly compact but packed with detail.
Architecture & Building
A classic six-storey Georgian townhouse with that unmistakable Bristolian blend of red brick and creamy Bath stone, featuring huge sash windows and beautifully proportioned rooms.
