The Ancient High House
About This Museum
People come to the Ancient High House not just to see an old building, but to walk directly into the pages of history. You can almost feel the presence of past inhabitants as you wander from a room furnished exactly as it would have been in Tudor times to a fascinating Edwardian shop, complete with its original fixtures. The air gets heavy with drama in the Civil War room, where King Charles I himself was once quartered, and then you're swept into the more recent past by the impressive Yeomanry collection. Itβs this incredible layering of stories, all contained within England's largest surviving timber-framed townhouse, that leaves you with a powerful sense of connection.
