Provan Hall

About This Museum

Tucked away in Glasgow's Easterhouse, Provan Hall feels less like a museum and more like stepping directly into the 15th century. It's one of only four surviving medieval 'bastle houses' in the entire city, and you can practically feel the weight of its history the moment you walk across its worn stone threshold. The rooms are surprisingly intimate, with low ceilings and creaky floorboards that tell their own stories. I loved imagining the generations of merchants and families who lived here, their lives unfolding within these very walls.

Collection Highlights

Don't miss the authentically recreated period rooms, especially the kitchen with its massive hearth—it’s easy to picture it bustling with activity. Upstairs, the hall itself is wonderfully preserved, complete with original timber beams and a sense of quiet grandeur that has survived for over 500 years.

Visitor Information

It's only open on select days (usually weekends afternoons), so definitely check their website before you make the trip out. The setting in Provan Hall Park is lovely for a stroll afterwards.

Architecture & Building

A rugged and charming example of Scottish vernacular architecture, it's a fortified stone house with a distinctive stepped gable and a roof that looks like it has weathered countless Scottish storms.
