About This Museum

Stepping into the Oak House feels like walking straight into the 17th century. You can almost hear the creak of floorboards under the feet of the yeoman farmer who built his fortune here. The air is cool and smells faintly of old wood, a quiet hush filling the rooms that makes the outside world feel centuries away. It’s an incredibly intimate experience, far more personal than your typical grand stately home.

Collection Highlights

Don't miss the stunning, intricately carved oak panelling in the main hall—it's the star of the show. I was also completely taken by a massive, heavily-carved four-poster bed that makes you wonder how they ever moved it in.

Visitor Information

It's tucked away on Oak Road in West Bromwich, so it feels like a real hidden gem. Just check their website for opening times before you go, as they can be seasonal.

Architecture & Building

It's a gorgeous black and white half-timbered house, the classic Tudor look that you picture from storybooks.
