Norfolk and Suffolk Aviation Museum
About This Museum
What truly sets the Norfolk and Suffolk Aviation Museum apart is its wonderfully personal, grassroots feel. It's a place built by passion, where you can get up close to an incredible variety of aircraft without any barriers. The collection sprawls across several hangars and the open air, telling the rich aviation story of the two counties. You're just as likely to find a veteran volunteer ready to share a story as you are a rare exhibit.
Collection Highlights
Look for the sleek lines of the English Electric Lightning, a true icon of British Cold War engineering, and the charmingly ungainly Fairey Gannet. Don't miss the extensive display dedicated to the 446th Bomb Group, which was based locally during WWII, or the fascinating assortment of vintage ground vehicles and engines scattered throughout the site.
Visitor Information
It's an incredibly welcoming spot for families—kids love climbing into the cockpits of certain aircraft. Best of all, entry is free, though donations are very much appreciated to help this volunteer-run gem keep flying. There's a small café for a cuppa and it's easy to spend a whole afternoon exploring.
Architecture & Building
The museum doesn't have a grand designed building; instead, it's a charming mix of authentic former RAF buildings, practical modern hangars, and open farmland, giving it a genuine airfield atmosphere.
