National Trust - Wightwick Manor and Gardens
About This Museum
Wightwick Manor feels like a delightful anachronism, a Victorian gentleman's whimsical tribute to a bygone Tudor age. Step inside, however, and you're plunged into the heart of the Arts and Crafts movement, a home deliberately crafted as a work of art. The rooms are a feast for the senses, filled with the warm glow of William Morris wallpapers and rich fabrics. Itβs an intimate and surprisingly personal place, less a sterile museum and more a family home where every object was chosen with love.
Collection Highlights
You'll find an exceptional collection of Pre-Raphaelite paintings, including works by Rossetti and Millais, gazing down from the walls. Don't miss De Morgan's stunning iridescent pottery or the intricate woodcarvings that adorn almost every surface.
Visitor Information
The manor is managed by the National Trust, so members get in free. Booking ahead is often a good idea, especially if you want to catch one of their excellent guided tours that bring the family stories to life.
Architecture & Building
It's a timber-framed Victorian manor built to look centuries older, its black-and-white exterior giving little hint of the progressive Arts and Crafts beauty held within.
