About This Museum

Tucked away in the Worcestershire countryside, Hanbury Hall is a stunning escape into the early 18th century. It feels less like a static museum and more like stepping directly into the elegant, yet comfortable, world of the Georgian gentry. The real showstopper for me was climbing the staircase to find myself surrounded by the vibrant, full-color drama of James Thornhill's baroque frescoes on the walls and ceiling. Outside, the restored formal gardens and sprawling parkland, complete with a productive orchard, are just as captivating as the house itself.

Collection Highlights

The breathtaking baroque wall and ceiling paintings by Sir James Thornhill depicting scenes from classical mythology are unmissable. Don't rush past the smaller details either, like the beautifully preserved Chinese wallpaper or taking a moment to imagine life in the traditional cider house.

Visitor Information

It's found on School Road in Droitwich Spaβ€”your satnav will know it. My top tip? Check their website for seasonal opening times, as they change throughout the year, and definitely leave time for a leisurely walk through the orchards.

Architecture & Building

A quintessential Queen Anne-style country house built from rich red brick, it’s a beautiful and symmetrical example of the era's elegant but understated taste.
