About This Museum

Tucked away in the charming village of Whitton near Knighton, the Museum of Welsh Textiles is a real gem for anyone fascinated by fabric and history. It feels more like stepping into a well-kept secret than a formal institution. You're immediately surrounded by the rich textures and earthy colors of wool that tell the story of Welsh rural life. It’s a wonderfully intimate space where every blanket and shuttle seems to have its own tale.

Collection Highlights

Don't miss the stunning traditional Welsh blankets, their complex patterns woven with incredible skill. I was completely captivated by the working handlooms, where you can sometimes see demonstrations that bring the whole process to life. They also have a beautiful collection of quilts and tweeds, each piece a testament to generations of craftsmanship.

Visitor Information

You'll find it in The Old School on Penybont Rd – it's a cozy spot, so check their opening times before you go. The staff are incredibly knowledgeable and passionate, always happy to share stories behind the looms.

Architecture & Building

Housed in a lovely old Victorian schoolhouse, the building itself is full of character with its original features. It gives the museum a wonderfully authentic, homely feel that perfectly suits its collection.
