Museum of Cornish Life
About This Museum
People come to Helston for the famous Furry Dance, but they stay for the stories at this incredible museum. Tucked away in the old market town, it feels less like a formal institution and more like stepping into your Cornish grandmother's attic, if her attic spanned a whole historic building. You'll find everything from a reconstructed fisherman's cottage, smelling faintly of tar and salt, to the massive beam engine that once powered the town's waterworks. It’s a wonderfully unpretentious and deeply personal look at how people have lived and worked here for generations.
Collection Highlights
Don't miss the beautifully detailed Helston tradesman's shopfront, preserved right down to the old advertisements. The agricultural gallery is a highlight too, where you can get up close to the kind of heavy machinery that shaped the landscape.
