Mountsorrel & Rothley Community Heritage Centre
About This Museum
Tucked away on Swithland Lane, just a stone's throw from the bustle of Loughborough, this heritage centre feels more like a local's living room than a formal museum. It’s a place where the rich industrial and social history of the two villages is kept alive by passionate volunteers. You won't find sterile glass cases here; instead, the space hums with personal stories, from granite quarry workers to wartime evacuees. It’s an intimate, wonderfully chatty spot that makes you feel like you've been let in on a community secret.
Collection Highlights
The star of the show is undoubtedly the massive model railway, a painstakingly detailed recreation of the Mountsorrel Granite railway system as it was in the 1950s. Alongside it, you'll find poignant artefacts from World War II and fascinating geology from the famous local quarries.
Visitor Information
Run by volunteers, it's best to check their social media for opening times as they can be limited. Entry is free, but donations are very welcome to help keep this community gem thriving.
Architecture & Building
Housed in a converted stone school building, it has all the unassuming charm of a local village hall.
