Moffat Museum
About This Museum
People often wander into our little museum looking for the story behind Moffat's famous ram statue, and they leave with so much more. It’s the kind of place where you can spend an hour getting lost in the everyday lives of shepherds, spa-goers, and smugglers who shaped this town. You'll find letters written by a local lad who found himself on Shackleton's Antarctic expedition and the old leather trunk of a travelling draper. It all comes together to give you a real feel for the character of this Dumfriesshire burgh.
Collection Highlights
The star is undoubtedly the original model for the Moffat Ram, but don't miss the fascinating relics from Shackleton's Endurance voyage donated by a Moffat man. The recreated Victorian kitchen and chemist shop also bring a wonderful sense of daily life from a bygone era.
Visitor Information
You'll find us tucked away in the old Annandale Bank building on Church Gate – just look for the charming stone facade. It's run by wonderfully knowledgeable volunteers, so popping in feels more like a chat with a neighbour than a formal museum visit.
Architecture & Building
A handsome, traditional Scottish stone building that once served as the town's bank, fitting perfectly into the historic streetscape.
