Mary Rose Museum
About This Museum
Tucked right into the historic Portsmouth dockyard, the Mary Rose Museum feels like stepping directly onto a Tudor dock. The star of the show is the ghostly, preserved hull of Henry VIII's favourite warship, which you can walk around on different levels for an almost 360-degree view. It’s incredibly atmospheric inside – dimly lit and quiet, with personal items from the crew still scattered as they were found. You get this powerful, almost eerie connection to the day in 1545 when she tragically sank right outside.
Collection Highlights
Seeing the original ship's hull is breathtaking, but it's the everyday objects that really stick with you – a longbow archer's chest, wooden bowls, and even the skeleton of the ship's dog, Hatch.
Visitor Information
It's right in the heart of the Historic Dockyard, so your ticket gets you into other attractions like HMS Victory. Definitely book online ahead of time as it can get busy, and give yourself a good few hours to take it all in.
Architecture & Building
The building itself is sleek and modern from the outside, but its dark, timber-clad interior is designed to feel like you're inside a protective crate surrounding the ship.
