London Canal Museum
About This Museum
You won't find another place like the London Canal Museum, a quirky little spot that tells the story of how canals shaped the city. It's built right in a former ice warehouse, and its star attraction is the giant Victorian ice well hidden in the floor—a deep brick pit once filled with ice imported all the way from Norway! You can explore narrowboat cabins and learn about the tough lives of the families who lived and worked on the water. It’s a wonderfully hands-on history lesson tucked away just behind King's Cross.
Collection Highlights
Don't miss the massive ice well you can peer down into, plus a real horse-drawn narrowboat and recreated cabin showing how boat-people lived. The smell of old timber and rope in the boatyard area is fantastic.
Visitor Information
It's not a huge museum, so you can easily see everything in an hour or two—perfect for an afternoon adventure. Check their website for times you can go down to see the ice well up close.
