About This Museum

People often wander in here looking for the University's grand clock tower, but they stay for the stories locked in the stone. It's a place that truly makes you feel the immense age of our part of the world, showing how these very grounds were once a vibrant, tropical sea. You'll find yourself face-to-face with creatures that crawled through those ancient seas, their forms perfectly preserved in the local Wenlock limestone. It’s a quiet, almost humbling experience that connects you directly to a landscape long since vanished.

Collection Highlights

The real stars are the impossibly detailed Silurian sea lilies and trilobites from our local Wenlock reefs, but your eye can't help but be drawn to the dazzling case of rainbow-coloured gems and crystals from further afield.

Visitor Information

You'll find it tucked within the Aston Webb Building on the university campus – just follow the signs for the dinosaurs. Best of all, it's completely free to pop in and explore.

Architecture & Building

The collection is displayed under the beautiful, light-filled dome of an original Edwardian lecture theatre, all wood-panelled walls and high windows that make even the oldest fossil feel grand.
