Tucked away on the coast of Arbigland, this unassuming whitewashed cottage is where the American Revolutionary hero, John Paul Jones, was born in 1747. Stepping inside feels like traveling back in time, with its low ceilings and creaky floors telling their own story. I was completely drawn in by a short film that vividly recounts his daring naval raids against the British. The whole place has this quiet, almost reverent atmosphere that makes you appreciate the humble beginnings of such a formidable figure.

You can see the actual fireplace where his family would have gathered and a fascinating scale model of his legendary ship, the Bonhomme Richard. Don't miss his family Bible on display; seeing his handwritten entries really makes history feel personal.
