From the formidable hosiery knitting frames that once powered the local economy to poignant reminders of wartime Hinckley, the past feels vividly present here. It’s not a sprawling, intimidating institution but a cozy, thoughtfully curated space where you can easily lose an hour chatting with the passionate volunteers.
Collection Highlights
You can't miss the fully restored industrial knitting machines, which clatter to life during demonstrations—a true nod to the town's identity as the 'Heart of Hosiery'. The recreated Victorian schoolroom is another favorite, complete with tiny wooden desks and a stern-looking teacher's portrait that will make you glad you're not in class. I also loved the intimate collection of World War II memorabilia, including letters home and artifacts from the local Home Guard.
