Herbert Art Gallery & Museum
About This Museum
People come to the Herbert to truly understand Coventry, and it absolutely delivers. I loved how you could walk from an immersive recreated Victorian street straight into a room of bold, contemporary paintings. It’s not a stuffy, look-but-don't-touch kind of place; I found myself completely engrossed in the hands-on displays about the city's history, from its medieval roots to its post-war rebuilding. The energy shifts beautifully between the permanent collections and the rotating art shows upstairs, making every corner feel fresh. It’s the kind of museum that leaves you feeling connected to the city's soul.
Collection Highlights
The 'Coventry Stories' exhibit is a must-see, where you can step inside a replica old-fashioned chemist shop and then see Lady Godiva's story brought to life. The modern art galleries are always surprising, and I was lucky to catch a powerful temporary exhibition on social justice.
