About This Museum

You'd never guess that this treasure trove of local life is housed in a former railway goods shed, but that's the charm of the Garioch Heritage Centre. It feels less like a formal museum and more like stepping into your grandparent's wonderfully cluttered attic, if that attic spanned the entire history of this corner of Aberdeenshire. The air smells faintly of old wood and paper, and every object seems to have a story waiting to be told. It’s a place built not on grandeur, but on the deep, personal connections of the community it serves.

Collection Highlights

One minute you're looking at a beautifully preserved handloom, the next you're peering at early photographic plates of Inverurie's streets or a collection of century-old farming tools worn smooth by use. The 'Bothy', a recreated farm worker's living quarters, gives you an intimate sense of the spartan conditions many endured.

Visitor Information

It's tucked away on Loco Works Road, easy to miss if you're not looking for it, but well worth the hunt. The volunteers who run it are fonts of knowledge and their passion is utterly infectious.

Architecture & Building

Housed in a robust, unassuming stone building that was once part of the town's railway infrastructure, it retains its industrial character with high ceilings and a no-frills practicality.
