About This Museum

You'd never guess this charming thatched cottage on Fore Street was once a marine villa built for a wealthy wine merchant. It feels more like stepping into a generous local's sitting room than a formal museum, which is precisely its magic. Inside, you'll find the place brimming with tales of Budleigh Salterton, from its geology to its famous former residents. It’s a real labour of love, run by passionate volunteers who keep the town's history alive.

Collection Highlights

Don't miss the delicate Honiton lace, a craft this area was famed for, and the intriguing 'Jurassic Coast' cabinet full of local fossils. Upstairs, there's often a wonderful exhibition from a local artist tucked away in the gallery.

Visitor Information

Pop in during the summer season; it's run by volunteers so hours can be limited. Best to check their website before you wander down.
