About This Museum

Tucked away on a quiet side street in the heart of Dalkeith, this little museum is an absolute gem. It feels less like a formal institution and more like stepping into a local's front room, if that room was packed with fascinating relics from centuries past. I spent a good hour completely absorbed in the stories of the town, from its industrial roots to the lives of ordinary people who called it home. The warmth and passion from the volunteers truly bring the place to life.

Collection Highlights

Don't miss the incredible hand-painted Dalkeith mugs or the poignant World War I memorials that feel deeply personal. Upstairs, you'll find a charming recreated Victorian schoolroom that will make you glad for modern education.

It's run by lovely volunteers, so check their website for opening times as they can be limited. Entry is free, but do pop a donation in the box to help them keep going.
