Believe it or not, this formidable Norman keep was built almost a thousand years ago on the vaults of a Roman temple. Today, it stands proudly in the middle of a beautiful park, its massive stone walls hiding a surprisingly modern and interactive experience inside. You can descend into the original Roman vaults, get hands-on with history, and even step inside a recreated Victorian prison cell. It’s a place where ancient stones tell countless stories, from Boudica's revolt to the dark days of the witch trials.

Don't miss the incredible Fenwick Hoard of Roman treasure, discovered hidden beneath a local department store. The museum also holds one of the finest collections of Roman ceramics in Britain and brings history to life with touch-screen tables and replica objects you can handle.
