About This Museum
Everyone comes here for one reason: to get up close with the giants of the steam age, and it absolutely delivers. The heart of the place is a beautifully recreated Victorian station that makes you feel like you've stepped back in time. I was completely charmed by the chance to actually climb aboard some of the veteran carriages and even take a short ride behind a chuffing steam engine. It’s less a quiet museum and more a living, breathing tribute to railway history, filled with the sounds and smells of a bygone era. You leave not just having seen old trains, but having genuinely experienced a piece of them.
Collection Highlights
The star for me was the massive 'City of Truro', a beautiful green locomotive with a legendary history. Wandering through the opulent Royal Saloon carriage used by Queen Victoria’s son was another unforgettable highlight, showcasing a level of luxury you just don't see today.

Check their website before you go, as steam ride days are specific and you'll definitely want to plan your trip around one. It's located at Quainton Road Station, which is easy to find but feels wonderfully off the beaten path.

The centerpiece is the charmingly authentic Victorian station building, complete with a classic signal box and period-appropriate signage that sets the scene perfectly.
