Beamhurst Museum
About This Museum
You'd never guess it from the handsome red brick, but this place started life as a workhouse for the poor of the Uttoxeter Union. Now, the Beamhurst Museum tells the quieter, richer stories of our corner of Staffordshire. It feels less like a formal institution and more like rummaging through your granddad's wonderfully cluttered attic. Every object here, from a worn leather apron to a child's wooden toy, has a tale to tell if you're willing to listen.
Collection Highlights
Don't miss the heartbreakingly small Victorian clogs or the beautifully preserved ledgers from the old tannery down by the River Tean. Upstairs, you'll find a whole case dedicated to 'treasures' dug up from local gardens – clay pipes, thimbles, and other fragments of daily life.
Visitor Information
It's run by passionate volunteers, so opening hours can be a bit flexible; best to check their Facebook page before you pop in. There's no fancy café, but you're welcome to bring a flask and sit on one of the benches in the little garden out back.
Architecture & Building
A solid, no-nonsense Victorian building of local brick that speaks of its past life. It has that distinctive arched entranceway typical of its era, though it feels far more welcoming now than it once must have.
