Svrzo's House
About This Museum
This isn't your typical museum; it's a perfectly preserved time capsule of life in old Sarajevo. You walk through the complex and feel like a family has just stepped out for a moment, with low wooden divans and intricate rugs still in place. The house is built on different levels cascading down the hill, creating a maze of rooms that feel both cozy and expansive. It’s an incredibly intimate look at how generations lived together under one roof, completely transporting you to another era.
Collection Highlights
You'll see the charmingly simple kitchen with its copper utensils, the beautifully appointed guest room (or musafirhana), and the separate living quarters for men and women. Don't miss the secluded haremluk courtyard, which was the private world for the women of the family.
Visitor Information
Just head to Glođina street in the old Baščaršija district—it's easy to find. You explore at your own pace with a self-guided tour, which lets you linger in the quiet courtyards as long as you like.
Architecture & Building
It's a classic example of Ottoman residential architecture, with its distinctive white-walled, wood-beam exterior and a steep shingled roof. The whole complex is designed around a series of shaded courtyards that provide a cool retreat.
