Royal Cars Museum
About This Museum
Tucked away in the coastal suburb of Seeb, just a stone's throw from the main road to the airport, you'll find a treasure trove of modern Omani history. This isn't a place of ancient forts and frankincense, but a gleaming collection that tells the story of the nation's recent past through its most elegant machines. The Royal Cars Museum is where you can practically hear the purr of engines that carried Sultans and witnessed the signing of treaties. It’s a surprisingly intimate look at the personal tastes and journeys of Oman's rulers.
Collection Highlights
The star of the show is undoubtedly a magnificent Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow, used by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos for official events. Alongside it, you'll find rugged American classics like a 1950s Chevrolet and a fleet of pristine Mercedes-Benz sedans, each with its own story etched into the upholstery.
Visitor Information
It's easy to miss if you're not looking for it, so keep an eye out for the signs. The museum is generally open in the mornings and afternoons, but it's always wise to check locally for the latest hours before you make the trip.
Architecture & Building
Housed in a purpose-built, modern Omani-style building with clean lines and sand-coloured walls, it feels more like a private garage than a stuffy institution.
