Peranakan Museum

About This Museum

Tucked away on the charming, tree-lined Armenian Street, the Peranakan Museum is an absolute gem. It completely redefines what a cultural museum can be—it's vibrant, interactive, and feels wonderfully alive. Stepping inside its historic walls, you're immediately immersed in the rich tapestry of Peranakan heritage through stunning multimedia displays that tell stories in the most engaging ways. Forget dusty glass cases; here, you can virtually 'try on' intricate beaded slippers or explore the symbolism behind that famous nonya porcelain.

Collection Highlights

The centerpiece is a breathtaking re-creation of a traditional wedding chamber, decked out in brilliant reds and golds. Don't miss the Nonya Kebaya exhibit, which beautifully details the art of this iconic attire, or the hands-on stations where you can hear Baba Malay phrases and even piece together virtual tile designs.

Visitor Information

It's brilliantly located just a short walk from the Bras Basah MRT station. I'd recommend setting aside at least two hours to do it justice—there's so much to see and interact with!

Architecture & Building

Housed in the former Tao Nan School, the building itself is a beautiful example of Neoclassical architecture from 1912, with its grand symmetrical facade and lofty windows that flood the galleries with natural light.
