National Museum of Singapore
About This Museum
If these walls could talk, they'd tell you stories from 1887. The old National Museum has seen it all, from Raffles' arrival to the roar of modern Singapore. It's not just a place for dusty artifacts; it feels more like the nation's living room, where history whispers from every corner. You can almost hear the chatter of different eras in its grand halls.
Collection Highlights
Don't miss the beautiful gold ornaments from the ancient Sacred Hill collectionβthey speak of a wealthy, forgotten port. Then wander into the modern history galleries where you can listen to real audio recordings of everyday people sharing their memories of independence.
Visitor Information
It's right by the Dhoby Ghaut MRT station, so it's dead easy to get to. I'd set aside a good three hours if you want to do it properly, and the air conditioning is a lovely respite from our tropical heat.
Architecture & Building
The building itself is a storyβa magnificent colonial-era rotunda with a stunning stained-glass glass dome. They've cleverly grafted on a sleek, modern glass-clad extension that lets in loads of natural light, creating this wonderful conversation between old and new.
