Memorial JK
About This Museum
It's a strange and wonderful thing that a museum dedicated to a man of the people, President Juscelino Kubitschek, should feel like it just landed from a sci-fi movie. Niemeyer’s genius is on full display here: the main building is a stark, white concrete ramp that seems to levitate effortlessly beside a reflective pool, creating this serene, almost otherworldly atmosphere. Inside, the journey through JK's life—from his humble origins to his monumental project of building Brasília—is told through intimate personal artifacts, political documents, and striking photographs. The experience is less like walking through a sterile archive and more like having a conversation with the very soul of modern Brazil.
Collection Highlights
You'll find deeply personal items like his trademark hat and glasses right next to the original draft of the 'Brasília Target Plan,' which makes the history feel immediate. One of the most poignant exhibits is the simple, sobering ambulance where he was pronounced dead.
Visitor Information
It sits right on the Monumental Axis, so it's hard to miss. The light inside is incredible in the late afternoon when the sun hits that pool.
Architecture & Building
Pure, unadulterated Niemeyer: sweeping curves of raw concrete, dramatic ramps, and clean geometric forms that define Brazilian Modernism.
