Kajtaz House
About This Museum
Stepping into the Kajtaz House feels like walking right into the 16th century, a time when this was a bustling family home for a wealthy Ottoman official. You can almost hear the echoes of daily life in the creak of the wooden floors as you wander through rooms filled with low divans, intricate copper coffee sets, and beautiful, faded rugs. The heart of the home is its shaded central courtyard, where a gentle fountain trickles and the scent of roses from the garden mixes with the cool stone. It’s an incredibly intimate glimpse into a world that existed long before our own.
Collection Highlights
The original living quarters are frozen in time with their colorful stained-glass windows and traditional seating areas; don't miss the separate, more private women's quarters, or haremluk, which gives you a real sense of the family's social structure.
