Iwami Art Museum
About This Museum
Tucked away in Masuda, the Iwami Art Museum feels more like a quiet sanctuary than a typical gallery. It has this wonderful focus on the interplay between art and our local landscape, which you feel the moment you walk in. The collection is deeply personal, reflecting the soul of Shimane Prefecture itself. You leave feeling like you've understood this place a little better.
Collection Highlights
You'll find serene works by Yumeji Takehisa, with his iconic, melancholic beauties, alongside a fantastic selection of French Barbizon School paintings that somehow perfectly mirror our own misty hills. They also have a remarkable collection of intricate glass paperweights that catch the light from the large windows.
Visitor Information
Take your time here; it's a place for contemplation. The light in the main hall is stunning in the late afternoon. Afterwards, I always recommend a stroll through the adjoining Shinji Park—it extends the peaceful feeling you get inside.
Architecture & Building
A beautifully modern building with clean lines and vast windows that purposefully frame the greenery of the surrounding park, making the outside world part of the exhibition.
