Georgian Museum of Fine Arts
About This Museum
You wouldn't expect to find a collection of Pirosmanis in a building that looks like a Moorish palace, but that's Tbilisi for you. Stepping inside, the ornate facade gives way to these vast, light-filled halls where centuries of Georgian creativity unfold. I was completely captivated by the dramatic, almost folk-art style portraits from the 19th and 20th centuries—they have a raw emotional power you don't see every day. It’s a stunning journey through the soul of the country, all housed in what feels like a grand, artistic treasure chest.
Collection Highlights
The heart of the museum is its incredible collection of Georgian masters, especially the hauntingly beautiful works of Niko Pirosmani with his distinctive naive style. You'll also find powerful pieces from the likes of Lado Gudiashvili and Elene Akhvlediani, whose art captures the spirit and landscapes of Georgia.
