Cerrado Memorial
About This Museum
Tucked away on the campus of PUC Goiás, the Cerrado Memorial isn't your typical museum; it's a sprawling love letter to Brazil's vast heartland. It feels less like a building and more like stepping directly into the soul of the Cerrado itself. You'll wander through full-scale reconstructions of a colonial-era sugar mill and an entire 19th-century town square, which really makes history breathe. It’s a place that captures not just the objects, but the very spirit of the land and its people.
Collection Highlights
The life-size Monjolinho sugar mill, complete with its massive wooden gears, is a showstopper. There's also a stunning collection of over a thousand fossilized tree trunks, silent witnesses to an ancient world, and meticulously recreated indigenous dwellings that speak volumes about original ways of life.
Visitor Information
Come prepared for a bit of walking—the open-air exhibits are expansive and best enjoyed at a leisurely pace. It's the kind of spot where you can easily lose a whole afternoon just soaking it all in.
Architecture & Building
The buildings themselves are rustic and unpretentious, mostly low-slung structures with terracotta tile roofs and rough-hewn wood, designed to feel like they've always been part of the landscape.
