Did you know Ajman's history as a pearling powerhouse predates the modern UAE by centuries? You can almost feel that legacy within the thick, sun-baked walls of this 18th-century fortress. Stepping inside its shaded courtyards is a genuine escape from the city's bustle, revealing a world of traditional life. I was completely captivated by the intricate jewelry and the sheer weight of the wooden diving equipment, imagining the divers who once used it.

Look for the stunning displays of pearl merchants' tools and weights, a fascinating collection of historic rifles and curved daggers (khanjars), and poignant black-and-white photographs that capture a bygone era.
Visitor Information
It's wonderfully central in Ajman, easy to find near the corniche. I'd recommend going in the morning to enjoy the courtyard at its most peaceful.
Architecture & Building
A classic Arabian fort built from coral stone and gypsum, featuring two defensive towers and a massive, studded wooden gate that feels straight out of an old story.
