Sharjah Aquarium
About This Museum
I had no idea Sharjah had such a fascinating underwater world tucked away in its historic district. You start your journey on the upper floor, which feels like wading through a sun-dappled mangrove forest, before descending into the dramatically darker, cooler realm of the deep sea. It's incredible to go from spotting tiny, colorful clownfish darting through anemones to coming face-to-face with a massive sand tiger shark gliding silently past the glass. The whole place has this calm, almost reverent atmosphere that makes you forget you're in the middle of a desert city.
Collection Highlights
The coral reef tunnel is a definite highlight—you walk right through it with fish swimming all around you. Don't miss the eerie shipwreck exhibit where groupers and blacktip reef sharks hang out, or the touch pool where you can gently feel a starfish.
Visitor Information
It's super easy to find right on Al Meena Street next to the Maritime Museum, so you can easily make a full day of it. Just a heads-up, it's closed on Sundays!
Architecture & Building
From the outside, it's a modern, clean-lined building that fits perfectly with the other cultural spots in the area, giving off a real 'center for learning' vibe.
